FleeceBay UK’s Q2-09 FVF Promo – the maths done for you

For some time now, eBay sites around the world have been offering fee promotions, and up until around the time that John Donahoe first joined the company, those promotions offered genuine discounts for sellers.
However, over the last few years, the nature of those promotions have increasingly become disingenuous attempts to fleece additional fees from sellers.  [...]

eBay UK reveals summer of torment for sellers

eBay UK have announced off their site that this summer will feature two rounds of major changes immediately after major seasonal marketing campaigns begin for sellers.
Showing scant, or no, regard for the business planning their sellers undertake annually, two announcements in two days have revealed that this year’s “two changes per year” will take place [...]

Will AdCommerce lead to final eBay meltdown?

eBay UK announced Thursday, on their general Announcements Board, that the AdCommerce service is now live for the site.
Confusingly, the announcement points to a UK registered domain (www.adcommerce.co.uk), which then redirects to the US eBay Partner Network site, and a generic landing page for the USA AdCommerce service.
I make no secret that I am against [...]

In a surprise announcement, eBay UK have announced today that Private Sellers will no longer pay insertion fees for Auction format listings with a starting price under £0.99, with a similar offer extended on the Irish site for Auction listings beginning under €1.49.  FVFs have been levelled across the board at 10%.
There are a host [...]

eBay GB survey due – wolf to fleece sheepish sellers?

eBay UK are caught between a rock and a hard place.  On one hand they are frequently accused of failing to listen to sellers.  Yet when they do reach out for opinions, the opinions they receive are perceived as not listened to, or are wildly off-topic despite being relevant to other areas of the site’s [...]

eBay IE & UK post blanket ban on blades

After an extended period of no announcements (the calm before the storm?) eBay UK and eBay IE have posted several new policy notices, including that all bladed products except cutlery are to be banned for sale on the site, further decreasing their market opportunities for sellers.
In a main Announcement Board (AB) post yesterday, the justification [...]

UK updates sellers changing listings after current sales

eBay UK have released news concerning the updating of listings that have had recent sales.
Recent sales from a multi-item listing are factored into visibility under the eBay “Best Match” search results system, and therefore have a direct bearing on a seller’s potential future sales success and profitability.
The topic of being able to remove subtitles added [...]

eBay.co.uk will be making changes to the Postage and Packaging (P&P) Policy go into effect next Tuesday (27th January).
Originally announced last year, the revised policy summarises as follows -

eBay UK will set [...]

Reminder – Change to UK Duplicate Listings Policy 27 Jan

Just a quick reminder that next Tuesday, eBay UK will only allow one Buy Now listing per seller per SKU.  Sellers will be allowed to run up to 15 identical listings, but only one can be in Buy Now format, the other 14 must be in Auction Format.
The policy was announced in December and appears [...]

Thai eBay runs promo to feed the foil-hat theories?

Information forwarded to me today, with rough translation and comments, shows that the localised eBay service in Thailand may be struggling to survive, and could be for the chop.  Alternatively, it could indicate severe problems on the main eBay.com site.
The announcement and linked information (originally received yesterday by Gaz, who also provided the photos for [...]

Are 2008’s changes biting eBay? Sellers, not Buyers, Wanted

I received an interesting email today from eBay’s in-house affiliate program, the eBay Partner Network (ePN).  Receiving an email from them that can be described as interesting is event enough to blog about it, but this one is really interesting for those of us who blogged and journalised every change and nuance of 2008.
Let’s start [...]

No you can’t, yes you can, no you can’t = UK Pantomine

Even before the start date for adding a free subtitle as part of eBay UK’s pre-Christmas promotions, seller’s were asking if they would be able to edit it out after the promotion period, without the edit counting in the amended listing rules that strip the listing of accumulated prior sales benefits for improved visibility under [...]

UK ends the year with “nastily” worded message

eBay UK, never the politest or most diplomatic in their messaging to sellers since Richard Ambrose took over top spot in Trust & Safety, have ended the year with a message where changing one word could have made all the difference.
In a 30 December 2008 announcement, “The eBay Team” have stated (bold is mine) -

Sunday Papers 28 December 2008

This week in the Bloggosphere and beyond … here in Asia we’re still suffering from the Mediterranean Internet-cable breaks that happened 19 Dec, and access speeds are excruciatingly slow – taking up to 5-minutes per page refresh.  Because of this, Sunday Papers are a bit thin this week.
If you have trading partners out this way, [...]
