Oztion extends BIN durations to 60 days

Oztion, the online auction site that only allows Australian resident sellers, today extends Buy Now listing durations to 60 days. Previously their longest duration was 28 days.

An announcement on the site, on Friday, states that -

Changes to BuyNow Only listings

We will be making some changes to BuyNow Only listings.

BuyNow Duration Changes
We are changing the listing duration of BuyNow Only listings. Currently sellers can select 3, 5, 7, 10, 14 or 28 days when they list a BuyNow Only listing. BuyNow Only listings can be purchased at anytime (the buyer does not have to wait until the listing ends) so we have decided to extend the duration period to 60 days. This will allow sellers to list BuyNow Only listings for longer.

BuyNow Auto-Relist Changes
The Auto-Relist function will no longer be available on BuyNow Only listings after the changes take place. Auto-Relist is a feature that automatically relists a listing during the free relist period, since the free relist period is 60 days and BuyNow Only listings will become 60 days, Auto-Relist will no longer be necessary on BuyNow Only listings.

Why are you making these changes? To increase the length of time a BuyNow Only listing can be listed. Unlike auction listings, BuyNow Only listings are available for instant purchase, a definite end date is not necessary. So it makes sense to increase the duration and let them run for the entire free listing period (60 days). The change will also help sellers manage their listings, knowing they will be listed until sold or 60 days.

When will the changes take affect?
The changes will be rolled out on Tuesday the 21st July 2009.

The loss of auto-relisting on Buy Now listings will change the dynamics of Christmas period standard stock listing. Many sellers that I know, simply upload all their Christmas “routine” stock sometime in September and leave it running on auto-relist until between Christmas and New Year, then use markdown tools to clear unsold inventory during the January price-sales season. In the UK, for example, an item offered at a reduced or “Sale” price, by law, must have been advertised at the higher price during the previous 30 days.

This change in listing duration will cause professional sellers to rethink their Christmas & New Year season listing dates and strategies. Still, at least the Aussies are giving their sellers earlier implementation that eBay sellers are used to.
