Best eBay News in a Long Time – MoneyBookers Integration

It’s been a long time in coming, but those of us who have been MoneyBookers users for many years are about to get our wish come true – MoneyBookers is to be integrated into the eBay North America checkout system, and hopefully globally.

Dinesh Lathi, Vice President of Seller Experience for eBay has formally announced the plan will come to fruition in 2009, but his announcement failed to give any indication of which month or date, although the implications are it will be on or about 22 March when the revised Internet Merchants Gateway integration rolls out.

MoneyBookers are launching a special “eBay Partner” website for the US and for US account holders, though at the time of writing, it displays only the banner above.  However, do not despair – clicking the banner above will take you to the MoneyBookers central registration site, where you can apply for and open your account in readiness for the forthcoming integration.

Remember MoneyBookers is already an accepted payment solution under the eBay Acceptable Payments Policy on most eBay sites.

It is also highly preferred in many countries where eBay does not yet have a site, even if PayPal already operates in those countries.  In Central Europe, in countries such as Germany, it has a far higher take-up than PayPal because of the pay via bank options and methods used by MoneyBookers, which are more in line with the expectations and practices of buyers in those countries.

To me, this is the best piece of news from eBay since they introduced eBay Stores.

  1. “…where you can apply for and open your account in readiness for the forthcoming integration.”

Not if you are a US resident you can’t. The site says ” We currently do not accept customers from your country of residence. Please accept our apologies for this inconvenience.”

  2. I will see if I can get further comment and an explanation from MoneyBookers for you

  3. Paypal doesnt offer its services in Pakistan so i was very happy to hear about Moneybookers integration with ebay
but my dreams were shattered  when i read the full story. Its only for US Customers? so even if i am a verified Moneybookers Account Holder with Maximum withdrawl Limit i cannot offer Moneybookers to my Customers at ebay.
I dont understand this Stupid Policy?

  4. Hi Zaidi and welcome to BuildaSkill

MoneyBookers is in the Accepted Payments Policy list of approved payment services on most if not all eBay sites – that means you have been able to offer it and accept it for years.

It’s only in the US with their backdoor attempt at PayPal-only for 2008′s pre-Christmas season that it was not acceptable. Although if you read the Accepted Payments Policy, I see it’s still showing as permitted. From next month it’ll be integrated into the eBay.com checkout, making it easier for people to see it and use it – it doesn’t matter where you are, or on which country you registered your MoneyBookers account, you’ll still be able to offer the method on dot com – just as you can do now on UK, Germany etc.

At least, that’s the way I’m reading it.

  5. Hi Ed
When i tried to hook up my Moneybooker id with my ebay account its asking me SSC Driving license number
Bank account Number in USA whereas i am In Pakistan & my Bank account Credit card etc has already been verified.
I personally feel this is just a Drama to attract United States Customers from ebay Competitor websites who left ebay cuz of Its Stupid policies.

  6. You’re not alone Qamber

The BuildaSkill team have been on this very topic all day – there’s an editorial being written right now that will be on our front page very shortly – Donahoe lied to all the non-US residents

I can’t put it any more strongly than that without using profanities about the man.

  7. Hi Ed
I would like to bring to your kind Notice abt this ebay & Moneybookers Partnership.
Moneybookers Charge 2 % on recieving payments from Different Auctions Site but at ebay they are charging 2.90 % Plus 0.29 $ to equally support Paypal? This is the Reason that Worldwide Moneybooker Account Holders cannot hook up their Moneybooker Account at ebay.
What kind of Policies are These? Looting People? Is there law that can stop this injustice?
On the other hand ebay marketing teams are working Day & Night emphasizing Sellers to offer Free Shipping whereas the fact is that they deduct almost 20 % of Sales in shape of ebay & Paypal fees.
    Regards

  8. Wow Zaidi – you’ve got a sharp eye – I hadn’t spotted the different fees MB were charging to eBay accounts.
I’ll have to have a dig into this and check it out.
Assuming you’re correct, then it raised the ugly spectre of eBay manipulating the marketplace costs for payment processors, or charging them to be integrated onto the platform, thus raising costs for consumers. If either of those is true, then I’m sure there will be a Federal case to answer.

Have you seen yesterday’s editorial on the main page of the BuildaSkill blog? I’d appreciate your input on it.
