Obopay gives money away at Refresh Miami
By | December 29th, 2008 | Category: OboPay | No Comments »An unsigned post on the Obopay blog shows just how the new mobile phone money transfer service is promoting themselves in the US. Like any leading-edge technology, they’re going after the geeks first, which is of course, the correct way to go about it.
Obopay at Refresh Miami
From my Nokia to his iPhone! In a split second, he got a text message and a gift from Obopay. See video below of all the great Obopay action.
At a (pre-Christmas) Refresh Miami meet-up, I gave $5 gifts from Obopay to a great group of friends and professional colleagues. It was a really fun way to get into the holiday spirit!

Refresh Miami is …
. . . a social community for web and technology enthusiasts in the South Florida area. Designers, developers, marketers, consultants, entrepreneurs, and students alike come together for a monthly meet up to share ideas, discuss new trends, and meet and greet other like minded individuals.
This event was held at Brikolodge, Miami’s first co-working space. Co-working is a growing phenomenon around the world. It’s basically shared office space among freelancers, consultants and the like. If you want to learn more, click here to see if there’s a co-working space in your city.
Brian Breslin and Alex de Carvalho, Refresh Miami’s founders, announced that “Maria” would be giving away gifts, and within seconds people were tapping her on the shoulder. It ended up becoming a great ice breaker.
Many of the people there, as tech and mobile savvy as they are, had apparently never heard of mobile money, much less Obopay. So it was a great way for them to be introduced to Obopay.
If you’re ever out with friends, why not surprise them with a little gift yourself using your mobile phone and Obopay, better still, surprise them by sharing the bill if they’ve offered to foot it. It saves waiting until you’re at a PC where you can transfer from more regular online payment services.
