17 Days to go – Questions Unanswered by UK

With just 17 days left before the most radical shake-up of eBay UK (or any other eBay’s) listing formats since the sites began, there are still many questions evaded and unanswered by the Richmond team.  Here’s just a few of the most pressing ones that have been sidestepped.

Current sub-99p Shop listings -

  • Will these appear in the new-BIN format when 99p+ listings migrate out of SIF format into new-BIN?
  • if yes, during the remaining life of these legacy listings (30-day, 90-day, GTC) will sellers be able to adjust prices and increase/decrease quantity in the same way as they can with other 99p+ listings moved to the new format?
  • If no, will these listings be treated in the same way as US SIF listings were treated after 1st July – i.e. -
    1. continue showing in SM/SMP as being active, and continue being fee-invoiced on the Seller Account, but visible only to people who knew the listing numbers, and could go direct to the listings by using that?
    2. sellers receiving policy violation notices for each listing months after eBay should have auto-ended the listings due to item price being below minimum permitted price?

Overseas Shop subscribers -

  • Will shop subscribers on non-UK eBay sites (i.e. not UK or Ireland) be able to list new-BIN format listings on the UK & IE sites, at the new fee rates based on their shop subscription level?
  • If yes, will sellers from other countries, with non-UK shop subscriptions, have to meet the UK’s business registration and minimum DSR requirements per shop level in order to list at the new fee rates?
  • If yes, bearing in mind that other eBay sites have different levels of DSR criteria to either use their sites, or operate eBay shops, what will happen to those sellers listings uploaded to eBay UK - what fees will they be charged – if they do not meet the business registration or minimum DSR level per shop tier specified on the UK site?
  • If no, will there be reciprocal “cannot list shop format” arrangements between eBay UK and the other eBay sites, such that eBay UK shop subscribers will only be able to list shop-associated listings on the UK site?

These are just a few of the most common questions arriving in my mail box daily.

I will be forwarding a link to this post to various eBay UK & USA staff in the hope that at least one of them will have the courtesy to drop by and provide some answers, or they can email the answers to me (by copying and pasting the questions into an email eBay staff are GOOD at copy & paste answers).  My email address is editor@buildaskill.com

Let’s see if they’ll reply – meanwhile post your comments, queries, or additional questions in the form below.

Update 11 Sep 2008 - On Monday (8th) immediately after writing the above post, I emailed the link to three UK senior managers and several in the USA.  72 hours later, none of them have even had the courtesy to acknowledge receipt of the questions, let alone answer them.

In part, this is not surprising (here at BuildaSkill we’re not members of their “club” because we criticise when it’s needed) because eBay email seems to be up the creek – successful sale emails are taking 3-4 days to arrive and PayPal payment received emails are arriving 48-72 hours after the payment shows in our accounts there.  I guess they’ve been rolling too many system upgrades and doing too much maintenance lately?  They certainly haven’t been communicating – Pinks are still rarer than ever on the discussion boards.
