Web Admin Primers
Coffee Break Tutorials
Coming Soon.
Starting on 25th Feb, this Biz Blog will be popping up a daily quick-tutorial on a comprehensive list of WebAdmin related topics, making a fairly lengthy series of short primer articles for budding Web Admins and first time website builders.
The first series WebAdmin 101-102 will cover a range of topics designed to make sure that readers have a good foundation on back office and pre-build necessities before they commit to a particular web hosting service and domain name. The series is designed similar to college courses in structure, but aimed at skill levels that could be classed as complete beginners through to “some experience and knowledge but wanting to move to the next stage”.
Experienced Web Admins are welcome to read the series of course, and more than welcome to join in discussing them in the blog comments section for each article, but please remember the target audience and avoid becoming too “3rd-level-support” when doing so. If you spot any errors in the articles, please PM me via the PM system in our forums so I can correct it as quickly as it’s spotted.
A simplified contents list of the first series is –
WebAdmin 101 – Domains – Intro
101A – Domains Explained – 9 articles
Domain types, registrars, registrants, Whois (& identity protection)
101B – Domain Acquisition – 8 articles
Buying, transfers, renewing etc
101C – Domain Changing – 6 articles
Selling / Reselling / Auctioning / Appraising & other topics
WebAdmin 102 – Hosting – Intro
102A – Hosting Basics & Types – 15 articles
Free / Cheap / Premium / shared / managed / xNIX / Windows, and more
102B – Hosting Security – 8 articles
Server security, redundancy, backup & restore, monitoring, database mngt etc.
102C – Hosting & Server Admin – 10 articles
Server administration, admin tools, installer suites, traffic and access etc
102D – DNS – 8 articles
DNS overview, servers, name system, errors, lookups, URL forwarding, Dynamic DNS
That’s around 66 or so articles for the 101-102 series, and there’ll be one per day appearing from 25th February – should keep everyone busy in their coffee breaks for a couple of months. ![]()
While you’re all catching up on reading that lot, I’ll be working on the 201-202 series, and will be announcing their content sometime around early-mid April, just before the 101-102 series is due to finish. I’m also already scribbling topic ideas for a 301-302 series – who knows? Maybe this will be one of those never-ending series? ….. errrr ….. isn’t that what blogs were intended for? Must check into that … another post-it note on the side of the monitor.
If you have requests for content for a future series, please drop me a PM via the forums, or add a comment/request to this announcing post.
